Why we do it
The SmallWorld Foundation believes that it is important for future theaters to embrace neurodiversity, and therefore, we are delighted to consult on such important new approaches as Relaxed Performance, which can make theater performances relevant and accessible to autistic individuals, as well as Universal Design principles that can be considered in the physical layout and future operation of the theatre space.
What we do
We are currently working on two Relaxed Performance projects, funded by NKA, the Hungarian National Art Fund.
One project concerns the retrofitting of a previously created play, the classic Zoltán Fábri film, The Fifth Seal with an all-women cast.
The other project is “cripping the theatre,” developing a brand new play that involves neurodivergent participation and content from the beginning of the creative process.

Past Projects
It is a great honor that as a local civil organization, the Foundation was invited to participate in the renewal of the Bethlen Square Theater. The project, led by the Association of Cultural Heritage Managers (KÖME), aims to unite institutions, organizations, and civilians in the theater’s vicinity and neighborhood through a dedicated workshop series. During these workshops, the input of local organisations like ourselves is assessed to determine the community’s needs and wants to be implemented in the refurbished theater. Recommendations will be made based on these needs, which will be incorporated into the architectural design competition.
